Snow on the Tulips by Liz Tolsma

SnowTulips-e1378875337964

Snow on the Tulips by Liz Tolsma was an amazing book.   This book takes place during WWII which just happens to be one of the time periods in history that I love learning and reading about.  I also loved this book because my grandma’s family is from the Netherlands and she is working on her family history right now so I feel like I know the people.  I loved this book but it was a hard read for me because I knew that this book is fiction but things like this had to have actually happened to people there.  This is a book that I know I will hold on to because the author does an amazing job of telling the story and of making you feel like you are there going through everything with the characters.  I loved the love story as well in this book and I was sad when it finally did come to an end because I love the characters and in the end I felt like I knew them.  If you love WWII and love stories than I know you will love this book!

About Snow on the Tulips

A stranger’s life hangs in the balance. But to save him is to risk everything.
The war is drawing to a close, but the Nazis still occupy part of the Netherlands. After the losses she’s endured, war widow Cornelia is only a shadow of the woman she once was. She fights now to protect her younger brother, Johan, who lives in hiding.
When Johan brings Gerrit Laninga, a wounded Dutch Resistance member, to Cornelia’s doorstep, their lives are forever altered. Although scared of the consequences of harboring a wanted man, Cornelia’s faith won’t let her turn him out.
As she nurses Gerrit back to health, she is drawn to his fierce passion and ideals, and notices a shift within herself. Gerrit’s intensity challenges her, making her want to live fully, despite the fear that constrains her. When the opportunity to join him in the Resistance presents itself, Cornelia must summon every ounce of courage imaginable.
She is as terrified of loving Gerrit as she is of losing him. But as the winter landscape thaws, so too does her heart. Will she get a second chance at true love? She fears their story will end before it even begins.

Gunpowder Tea by Margaret Brownley

Gunpowder-Tea-Brownley

Gunpowder Tea by Margaret Brownley was a super fun read.  I think the thing I loved most about this book is that it had a very unique plot.    The main character Miranda is and undercover detective in trying to figure out who is the Phantom is.  I have to say that the first chapter had me laughing and I knew from that first chapter I was going to love this book.   This entire book was a cute story and I am going to go on and read the other two books because I love this authors writing.  If you want to read a super cute story than this one is for you.

About Gunpowder Tea

In a case that could change her career, Miranda uncovers a love that will change her life. When Miranda Hunt sees the classified ad for an heiress to the legendary Last Chance Ranch, she knows assuming the identity of Annie Beckman is the perfect cover. As one of the finest agents for the Pinkerton Detective Agency, Miranda has been tasked with apprehending the Phantom—an elusive and notorious train robber thought to be hiding on the sprawling ranch. But she isn’t the only one at the ranch with something to hide. Wells Fargo detective
Jeremy Taggart is working undercover as well. Their true identities may be a secret, but it is impossible for Jeremy and Miranda to hide the sparks flaring between them.
Neither is about to let romance interfere with such a huge case. Besides, Miranda hasn’t removed Jeremy from her list of suspects yet. The closer they get to uncovering the identity of the Phantom, the more dangerous he gets—and no one on the ranch is safe. The longer Miranda and Jeremy spend working together, the harder it becomes to keep their feelings in check. Their careers-and their lives-depend on solving this case. Love will just have to wait.

“In the exquisitely intriguing finale to her Brides of Last Chance Ranch trilogy, Brownley blends faith and romance with a dash of mystery to serve up a cozy, fulfilling story set in the Arizona Territory of the 1890s . . . .This enchanting account of the hardships and wonders of the Old West features many delightful characters. The story stands on its own merits, independent of the first two in the series, drawing readers into a world that is difficult to leave.” —Publishers Weekly

About The Author Margaret Brownley

Thrills, mystery, suspense, romance: Margaret penned it all. Nothing wrong with this—except Margaret happened to be writing for the church newsletter at the time. After making the church picnic read like a Grisham novel, her former pastor took her aside and said, “Maybe God’s calling you to write fiction.” So that’s what Margaret did. She’s now a New York Times bestselling author and a Romance Writers of America RITA finalist with more than 25 novels to her credit. Her first non-fiction book Grieving God’s Way: the Lasting Path to Hope and Healing has won much critical acclaim. She is currently working on the third book in her Brides of Last Chance Ranch series. Not bad for someone who flunked 8th grade English. Just don’t ask her to diagram a sentence.

Pennsylvania Patchwork by Kate Lloyd

PPatchworkcover

Pennsylvania Patchwork by Kate Lloyd was a super cute and fun read.  It was another one that once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down.  I loved the characters and I loved watching Kate try and figure out what to do and who was the right person for her to marry.  This was definitely a different book but that made it that much more appealing to me.  I loved how she didn’t grow up amish but that she embraced the lifestyle and loved it.  I am not sure I could do the same thing if I were in Kate’s shoes.  The only thing I didn’t like about the book was who she chose in the end but other than that I can’t say anything bad about this book!

About The Book

Seattle native Holly Fisher is smitten by Lancaster County, its simplicity and her long lost relatives. In the sequel to bestselling Leaving Lancaster, Holly embraces the Amish culture, learning to slow down to see what — and who — really matters.

Is this too soon? Is this the right choice? Mother and Amish grandmother think she’s rushing into too much of a lifestyle change. Holly is in love with Zach and that precludes everything. Barefoot Summer by Denise Hunter

Barefoot-Summer

Barefoot Summer by Denise Hunter was an amazing book. Once I started the book I fell in love with the characters and the authors writing. I believe this is the first book of hers that I have read and I can’t wait to check out others that she has written. You follow along with Madison as she is learning to sail so that she can win the towns annual regatta in memory of her brother. There are parts of this book that were slow but for the most part the book kept my interest. If you love cute stories about love and overcoming problems you will love this book.

About The Book

Madison’s heart has been closed for years. But one summer can change everything.

In the years since her twin brother’s tragic drowning, Madison has struggled with her ability to trust God-or anyone else, for that matter. It was her brother’s dream to win the annual River Sail Regatta in their small harbor town of Chapel Springs, Indiana. And Madison’s determined to honor his legacy by making his dream her own. Maybe then she can finally find closure.

But learning to sail means learning to swim. And her instructor is Beckett O’Reilly, a man who already has two strikes against him in Madison’s eyes. Being on the water terrifies Madison. But Beckett’s calming presence and unwavering confidence eases her fear. And as much as she’d like to deny it, the chemistry between them is electrifying.

As her feelings for him grow, a fledging faith begins to take root in her soul, as well. With Beckett, Madison feels alive for the first time in years-carefree and confident she can win the regatta, maybe even find love.

But Beckett harbors a secret that will test the limits of their love and the depth of Madison’s faith. Will their love survive summer’s challenge? And will achieving her brother’s dream give Madison the peace she desperately seeks?

Sweet Mercy by Ann Tatlock

Sweet Mercy by Ann Tatlock

My Review

I read this book in a few hours because I literally couldn’t put it down. From the moment I started this book I was hooked and to be honest I can’t tell you why. I loved the authors writing and how she makes you feel like you are right there with the characters. She doesn’t give too much detail but she gives enough so that you can feel like you are there with the characters. I have never read another book from the this time period so I was intrigued and interested to see what life was like for people during that time. The book takes place during prohibition in the 1930’s. You follow along with Eve and her parents as her dad gets laid off and they move to the town of Mercy to live with her uncle who owns a lodge. I am not going to get into what happens while they are there because that will give away the story.

About The Book

Stunning coming-of-age drama set during the Great Depression and Prohibition

When Eve Marryat’s father is laid off from the Ford Motor Company in 1931, he is forced to support his family by leaving St. Paul, Minnesota, and moving back to his Ohio roots. Eve’s uncle Cyrus has invited the family to live and work at his Marryat Island Ballroom and Lodge.

Eve can’t wait to leave St. Paul, a notorious haven for gangsters. At seventeen, she considers her family to be “good people,” not lawbreakers like so many in her neighborhood. Thrilled to be moving to a “safe haven,” Eve soon forms an unlikely friendship with a strange young man named Link, blissfully unaware that her uncle’s lodge is anything but what it seems.

When the reality of her situation finally becomes clear, Eve is faced with a dilemma. Does she dare risk everything by exposing the man whose love and generosity is keeping her family from ruin? And when things turn dangerous, can she trust Link in spite of appearances?

I can’t wait to read more books in this series because I loved this book so much. If you love sweet stories you will eat this one up.

It’s the ultimate choice. His kingdom or her heart? God’s will or their own?

“Undeniably Yours” by Becky Wade

UndeniablyYours_mck.indd

“Undeniably Yours” by Becky Wade was an amazing book.  I loved Meg and I loved following along with her journey and hoping she got all she wanted in the end.  I was hooked from the first page right up until the last page.  This book follows Meg and her journey to take over her fathers business’s after he passes away.  You first meet Bo when she calls him in because she is going to shut down the horse farm that he runs for her father.  He gets her to give him 6 months to earn back the money that was invested into the farm before he shuts it down.  As I am sure you can guess they start to fall in love throughout the book.  I am not going to say anymore because I don’t want to give anything away.  I loved this book and I can’t wait to read more books by this author.

About The Book

When Meg Cole’s father dies unexpectedly, she’s forced to return home to Texas and to Whispering Creek Ranch to take up the reins of his empire. The last thing she has the patience or the sanity to deal with? Her father’s Thoroughbred racehorse farm. She gives its manager, Bo Porter, six months to close the place down.

Bo knows he ought to resent the woman who’s determined to take from him the only job he ever wanted. But instead of anger, Meg evokes within him a profound desire to protect. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs to overcome every obstacle that separates them and earn her love.

Just when Meg realizes she can no longer deny the depth of her feelings for Bo, their fragile bond is broken by a force from Meg’s past. Can their relationship-and their belief that God can work through every circumstance-survive?

“A Noble Groom” by Jody Hedlund

A Noble Groom

My Review

I loved this book. From the moment I started reading it I didn’t want to put it down. I fell in love with the main character and saw so much of myself in her. I find it sad how things were back and then and how hard the people had to struggle. I felt like I was there with her and I understood everything she was feeling. The author did a great job of explaining things and making it all come to life in my head. I can’t wait to read more books from this author.

About The Book

Michigan, 1880

Annalisa Werner’s hope for a fairy tale love is over. Her husband failed her in every way and now his death has left her with few options to save the family farm. She needs a plentiful harvest. That, and a husband to help bring it in. Someone strong, dependable. That’ll be enough. A marriage for love…that’s something she’s given up on.

So her father sends a letter to his brother in the Old Country, asking him to find Annalisa a groom.
Then a man appears: Carl Richards, from their home country of Germany and a former schoolteacher—or so he says. He’s looking for work and will serve on the farm until her husband arrives.
With time running out, she accepts his help, but there’s more to this man than he’s admitting. He’s also gentle, kind, charming—unlike any man she’s ever known. But even as Carl is shining light into the darkness of her heart, she knows her true groom may arrive any day.
